A GREAT opportunity for CTE teachers to attend the Hawaii National Great Teachers Seminar! Don’t miss out!
Through a Carl Perkins grant, six faculty members from Hawaii State DOE high schools will be awarded a tuition grant worth $995 and airfare to attend the 25th Hawai`i National Great Teachers Seminar from Sunday, August 4 through Friday, August 9, 2013 at the Kilauea Military Camp on the Big Island.
This seminar is a high-energy summer retreat that brings teachers from across the nation (and Canada and Micronesia) together to learn from each other and exchange innovations and solutions to teaching problems. The seminar is based on the principle that the collective wisdom, experience, and creativity of practicing educators surpass that of any individual expert. For more information visit: http://www.GreatTeacher.hawaii.edu.
Interested CTE teachers should complete the approved application form and submit it to the Leeward Community College Innovation Center for Teaching & Learning:
1. Email to firstname.lastname@example.org
2. Fax to (808) 455-0471 (Attention Cindy Martin)
Priority will be given to DOE faculty who submit their registration first and can benefit from connections with community college faculty in the following areas:
· Digital Media/Photography
· Health (Nursing, Respiratory Care, Dental Assisting)
· Culinary Arts
· Electrical Installation/Maintenance
· Learning Resources Support
The Perkins grant proposes to develop relationships and build partnerships between secondary teachers in the Department of Education and their colleagues in the seven community colleges. Networks developed at this seminar can be helpful for articulation and program improvement activities across our state.
Participants will also participate in a follow-up meeting in December to share the teaching strategies in the classroom to improve student retention and student learning outcomes.
