The 17th Annual Astronaut Ellison Onizuka Science Day has been set! This free event (a full day of science and space… and fun!) pays tribute to the legacy of Hawaii’s first astronaut, Kona’s Ellison Onizuka.

  • Date: January 28, 2017
  • Venue: University of Hawai`i at Hilo.
  • Eligibility: Students in Grades 4-12, parents, teachers of any grade
    level
  • Free lunch provided by American Savings Bank for all registered student
    participants

Day’s schedule:

  • 8:00 a.m.-12:45 p.m.: interactive displays available for viewing
    (Library Lanai)
  • 7:45-9:00 a.m.: registration (UH-H Performing Arts Center)
  • 9:20-10:30 a.m.: opening assembly featuring Astronaut keynote speaker
    (UH-H Performing Arts Center)
  • 10:45 a.m.-11:45 a.m.: Workshop Session I
  • 11:45 a.m.-12:30 p.m.: lunch (lunch provided for registered students by
    American Savings Bank)
  • 12:45-1:45 p.m.: Workshop Session II
  • 2:00-3:00 p.m.: closing general assembly, featuring the TMT VEX IQ
    robotics final matches, and a closing Light Diffraction Extravanganza
    (you will receive diffraction glasses to take home), door prizes
